 Genesis 28:18 KJV

[18] And Jacob rose up early in the morning, and took the stone that he had put for his pillows, and set it up for a pillar, and poured oil upon the top of it.

A Stone Means Stillness

The last verse of Jacob's Ladder describes Jacob having heard God's word in meditation promising that he will meditate for ten percent of the day. The word Stone means stillness in meditation. The process of meditation is the same as building God's house in our mind.

22 And this stone, which I have set for a pillar, shall be God's house: and of all that thou shalt give me I will surely give the tenth unto thee.

As always, the hidden meaning of a keyword like Stone can be found elsewhere in the bible:

Exodus 15:16

Fear and dread shall fall upon them; by the greatness of thine arm they shall be as still as a stone; till thy people pass over, O Lord, till the people pass over, which thou hast purchased.

And the keyword Rock also...

Matthew 16:18-19 KJV

[18] And I say also unto thee, That thou art Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it. [19] And I will give unto thee the keys of the kingdom of heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt bind on earth shall be bound in heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven.
